Adopted by the U.S. Air Force as a surveillance aircraft, the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of providing cloud-penetrating high-res Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and long-range Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) imagery with long loiter times over targets. It can also survey up to 40,000 square miles (100,000 square kilometers) of terrain in a day. Curtiss-Wright Controls also provides rotary position sensors and electromechanical rotary actuators for this intelligence surveillance aircraft.
